Top Five Pet Friendly Places to Visit in 2018, SLC, UT – Rocky Mountain Pooper Scoopers

travel visit with dog

Choosing where to vacation with your pets is a lot like choosing a place to vacation with your husband or wife. One might enjoy the mountains while the other enjoys the ocean which means you’ll need to find a place where everyone will be happy. When traveling with pets, however, accommodations are the biggest factor to take into consideration. After that, you’ll need to find a city that has great dog parks, awesome hiking trails and plenty of pet friendly businesses. In today’s post we will talk about the best cities to travel to with your pet in 2018.

ONE—Key West, Florida

According to The Travel Channel most accommodations and outdoor restaurants in Key West are pet friendly because nearly everyone living there owns a pet. When traveling to Key West, be sure to rent a two-wheeler with a basket so your pet can go with you as you ride around the island. Bike rental places include Re-Cycle and Coconut Retriever. Dogs are also welcome to paddleboard or kayak with their owners on the water. Rent one at Lazy Dog or visit Higgs Beach Dog Park to allow your dog to run and play.

TWO—Asheville, North Carolina

North Carolina recently passed a state law that allows dogs and cats to dine with their owners at restaurants that have outdoor areas. Bring your dog along when you visit the Biltmore or simply enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. Visit Pisgah National Forest or Rock State Park as long as your dog is on a leash.

THREE—Bar Harbor, Maine

Bar Harbor gained national attention when the Obama family came to visit one summer, bringing their dog Bo along with them. Hike with your dog along 140 miles of trails located with Acadia National Park but once again, be sure your dog is leashed. Nearby Seal Harbor boasts an off-the-leash dog park called Little Long Pond, or take in the sunset on a dog friendly cruise. Pet friendly stores such as Bark Harbor or Walkin’ The Dog are the best places in Bar Harbor for recommendations when traveling with your pet.

FOUR—San Diego, California

San Diego is home to three dog beaches. The first is located at the northern end of Ocean Beach, the second is Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Park and the third is the beach on Coronado Island. The beach at Coronado Island offers surfing classes for dogs, as well as the Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

FIVE—Austin, Texas

When traveling to Austin, book a room at the Driskill Hotel. The Driskill offers The Pampered Pet Program which provides cats and dogs with plush beds, elegant food bowls and souvenir toys to take with them when you leave. Austin is home to 10 off-leash dog parks where each park has something different.  Don’t miss Zilker Botanical Gardens where your dog is welcome to join you as long as he remains on his leash. Dogs and owners that wish to let loose can paddleboard or kayak together. Rent one at Zilker Park Boat Rentals or visit Austin Doga to take a yoga class with your favorite canine.

Where ever you decide to travel in 2018 remember to always keep your pets’ safety in mind. Always keep him on his leash as instructed and don’t forget your poop bags to clean up after him as you make your way around the city.
