The holiday season is a time for us to rejoice and celebrate with family, friends and pets. For those pets housed in shelters, however, it’s just an ordinary day, another day to wait and hope for a family of their own.
While out shopping this year, consider being a part of The Santa Paws Project. Pick up a toy for a dog or cat and drop it off at any Pet Club location in the Phoenix area. Donated toys will be given to animals currently living at Maricopa Animal Control and Care.
Donations are being accepted through December 18, see their website thesantapawsproject.org for moreinformation and for more drop off locations.
You may also drop off toys on Saturday, December 9 at Freestone District Park. The park will play host to Twelve K’s of Christmas. There will be animals there for families to adopt and Santa’s Pet Village where pets can have their picture taken with Santa, himself. Events begin at 8:00 and they will run through noon. Register to participate in one of three races that will take place that morning. Run the 12K, the 6K, or participate with your family in the 1.2K Santa Sled Race. Prizes will be awarded for the best Christmas-themed outfit on both owners and pets.
Location:
Freestone District Park
1045 E. Juniper Road
Gilbert, Arizona 85233
See their website: www12krun.com for more registration and more information about the event.
These are just two of the ways you can get involved this holiday season. Support your community while exercising and making a difference in the lives of homeless pets.
