International Pooper Scooper Week: Making Your Community Cleaner

International Pooper Scooper Week occurs each year during April 1-7. If you haven’t prepared an activity yet, it’s not too late to plan something. Simply contact your local parks and recreation department and let them know you’d like to volunteer for dog waste cleanup in your community.

You can volunteer on your own, alongside your colleagues, or maybe even gather a team of volunteers from your community to participate. Contact your local newspaper and send in a press release notifying everyone about what you intend to accomplish during the week. Make certain you supply sufficient gloves and waste bags for everyone taking part in the dog waste cleanup!

International Pooper Scooper Week came into existence after a collection of pooper scoopers formed an organization known as The Association of Professional Animal Specialists (aPaws) during February 2002. They came together as an organization because they believed every dog warranted a moment of recognition, though that wasn’t their sole purpose. Dog waste is becoming a challenge in our communities and aPaws aimed to inform dog owners about the importance of cleaning up after their dogs, both at home and when traveling.

Are you aware that dogs produce approximately 5.8 billion pounds of dog waste each year? That’s enough waste to cover 900 football fields nearly a foot and a half in depth!

As dog owners, it’s essential to keep in mind that we must carry out our duty not just during International Pooper Scooper Week but year-round as well. When we dedicate the time to guarantee our environment remains clear of potential health risks, our world becomes a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone to live in!
