Grace Granatelli dedicated nearly two decades of her professional life to the finance industry. As the years passed and her supervisor approached retirement, Grace felt a growing sense that her own journey was headed in a new direction. She began reflecting on what would truly bring her fulfillment. Encouraged by a close friend to pursue work that aligned with her passion, Grace started exploring new possibilities. At first, she considered opening a doggy daycare, but quiet reflection and meditation guided her toward a path she hadn’t previously imagined.
“During one of my meditation sessions, the phrase canine massage suddenly came to me,” Grace shared. “It felt unmistakable—this was what I was meant to do.” Her love for dogs had always been present, but this moment provided clarity. The realization came in 2003, at a time when canine massage therapy was still a relatively unknown field. Only two programs in the country offered formal certification. Grace enrolled with Equissage, completed the rigorous coursework, and became a Certified Canine Massage Therapist.
After earning her certification, Grace devoted her time to volunteering with local rescue organizations and animal adoption events. She worked hands-on with neglected, injured, and senior dogs, offering therapeutic touch to animals who desperately needed comfort and healing. Through her volunteer efforts, word began to spread. Dog owners noticed the positive changes in their pets, and referrals quickly followed. What began as volunteer work soon evolved into a growing client base and, eventually, a full-fledged business.
In February of this year, Grace officially opened Pawsitive Touch, located in Park City, Utah. From her peaceful practice, she now works closely with dogs and their owners, focusing on wellness, mobility, and pain management. During a recent phone conversation, Grace explained the powerful benefits of canine massage therapy.
“Dogs experience the same physiological benefits from massage that humans do,” she explained. “Massage improves circulation, helps release endorphins, and can significantly reduce pain and stiffness.” A large portion of her clients are senior dogs who need gentle, supportive care. Many suffer from conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, or chronic back discomfort. These dogs aren’t visiting for luxury or pampering—they come because their bodies need relief and healing.
A significant number of Grace’s clients are referred by veterinarians. “When a dog has an ongoing medical condition, veterinarians often recommend massage as part of a comprehensive care plan,” she said. More and more dog owners are looking for holistic and non-invasive ways to support their pets’ health, choosing alternatives that complement traditional veterinary treatments.
Before accepting a new client, Grace takes time to gather detailed information. She asks questions about the dog’s medical history and discusses any diagnoses or recommendations made by the veterinarian. “It’s important that what I do supports—not replaces—veterinary care,” she emphasized. Her work is designed to function alongside medical treatment, not as a substitute.
While working with dogs, Grace also educates their owners. She demonstrates simple massage techniques that can be safely practiced at home and teaches owners how to identify physical changes such as lumps, swelling, or skin irregularities. “Canine massage creates a deeper bond between dogs and their people,” Grace said. “It helps owners become more in tune with their dog’s body, making it easier to notice pain or discomfort early.”
Through Pawsitive Touch, Grace Granatelli has transformed her passion into meaningful work that improves the quality of life for dogs throughout Utah. Her journey is a reminder that sometimes the most fulfilling paths are revealed when we slow down, listen, and follow what truly speaks to us.
