February’s Biggest Pet Events: Puppy Bowl, Dog Shows, and Feline Fun You Won’t Want to Miss

February is an especially exciting month for pet lovers, packed with important pet health awareness initiatives and fun-filled animal events. From National Cat Health Month to nationally televised dog competitions, there’s no shortage of opportunities to celebrate our four-legged companions. We love sharing timely updates and pet-related highlights, so be sure to check back often for news and information about your favorite dogs and cats.

Today’s focus, however, is all about the entertaining side of February. If you enjoy watching adorable animals steal the spotlight, this month delivers everything from heartwarming adoption stories to high-energy competitions featuring dogs and cats of all kinds.

Dog Bowl

Animal Planet is introducing a brand-new special this year with the debut of the Dog Bowl. Airing for the first time at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 3, this one-time event shines a spotlight on senior dogs who are searching for their forever homes. The Dog Bowl celebrates older canines by showing just how lovable, playful, and deserving they are—proving that age is no barrier to companionship.

Puppy Bowl 2018

What started over a decade ago as a lighthearted alternative to the Super Bowl has become a beloved annual tradition. Puppy Bowl offers viewers who aren’t football fans a different kind of game day excitement. On Animal Planet, two teams of adoptable puppies face off in a nonstop display of tail-wagging action.

This year, Team Ruff and Team Fluff take the field once again inside Animal Planet Stadium, complete with commentary from a “repawter” and officiating by a “rufferee.” The puppies featured in Puppy Bowl 2018 were all rescued from natural disasters that occurred in 2017, including events in Houston, Florida, and Puerto Rico. In total, puppies came from 48 animal shelters and rescue organizations across 25 U.S. states and territories.

Puppy Bowl 2018 airs on Sunday, February 4, beginning at 3 p.m. ET on Animal Planet. For early risers, pre-game coverage starts at 8 a.m., and if you miss the original broadcast, the game will re-air later that evening at 6 p.m.

Kitten Bowl V

Kitten Bowl V brings just as much charm and excitement—this time with whiskers and tiny paws. Beyond the cuteness, Kitten Bowl focuses on raising awareness about kitten adoption and the importance of spaying and neutering cats. The event kicks off at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 4, and airs on the Hallmark Channel.

Like the Puppy Bowl participants, the kittens featured in this event were rescued from recent natural disasters across the United States. Viewers can enjoy play-by-play commentary from Feline Football League Commissioner Boomer Esiason as the kittens scamper across the field in a fun and lighthearted competition.

Westminster Kennel Club Annual Dog Show

One of the most prestigious events in the dog world returns this February with the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Festivities begin on Saturday, February 10, featuring the 5th Annual Masters Agility Championship and the AKC’s 9th Annual Meet the Breeds event in New York City.

Results from these competitions will air on Sunday, February 11, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX. Later that evening, viewers can tune into Nat Geo Wild for The Road to Westminster, a behind-the-scenes look at the dedication, training, and travel that go into preparing for this iconic dog show.

The main Westminster events continue over two days—Monday, February 12, and Tuesday, February 13—bringing together top dogs from around the world.

2018 American Rescue Dog Show

Rounding out February’s lineup is a brand-new televised event making its first-ever appearance: the American Rescue Dog Show. Airing on Monday, February 19, at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT on the Hallmark Channel, this heartwarming competition features both mixed-breed and purebred rescue dogs.

Unlike traditional dog shows, the American Rescue Dog Show celebrates the resilience, personality, and spirit of dogs adopted from shelters. The event aims to bring attention to the ongoing issue of homeless dogs and encourages viewers to consider adoption as a way to make a difference.

With so many exciting and meaningful events packed into February, it’s the perfect time to celebrate pets, promote adoption, and enjoy the joy animals bring into our lives. Whether you’re watching from the couch with your own furry companion or sharing the events with family, there’s something for every animal lover this month.
